The Working Mother

By Jayde Johannsen

Motherhood is a state of mind. It's a character. It's a role. It's a state of being. It's also one of the most important jobs you'll take on. And it can be difficult. Let's face it, being a mother is a challenging job and sometimes we need extra help.

There is no such thing as the perfect mother. Mothers are only human after all. Often times, you'll feel overwhelmed. There's so much effort that goes into being a mother. Still there's always a way. As they say, where there's a will there's a way. Things aren't as gloomy as they may seem.

Mothers wear many hats. They play the role of entertainer, executive planner, cook, housekeeper and sports coach, among many other things. The act of being a mother means you have to be flexible.

Many mothers have to make the decision whether they want to work in addition to taking on the role of a mother. Paid work sometimes is a necessity, not an option. But you can always find a balance. Sometimes it just takes making an extra effort.

When it comes down to it, there really isn't a mystic trick to unlocking the secret of balancing working life and being a mother. You won't find a magic recipe that will make it all work. In fact, often, you'll find you have to improvise. But millions of mothers find themselves in the same boat. Millions of women have been in your shoes.

Career mothers come head on with many difficulties. They have to make time for work and for play. They have to find a balance between raising their children and being successful at work. It's a delicate balance.

The pressures of being a working mother can be overwhelming. A large majority of mothers often feel as though they are neglecting their kids or missing out on those precious years of childhood. Although it can seem like a lot, in the end, it's all worth it. All the stuff you have to go through is actually quite rewarding. In fact, that need to succeed can actually be the driving force to make you do well. Sometimes it's a needed push. Many women find that they can take on these double duties and do an outstanding job at both.

Really, once you set your mind to it, there's no limit to what you can do. You can and will succeed. Just take a look at all the other career mothers out there; they can tell you first hand that although it may seem difficult at times, it's really worth it.

While there is no easy solution to balancing work and motherhood-each mother has to find her own path-there are some simple guidelines to follow.

There are some general guidelines that working mothers can take into consideration.

Organization is key. Time is an extremely precious commodity and working mothers learn to make a schedule and stick to it.
